is it possible to have “how do you categorize this request” drop down a required field? The purpose of this is to prevent users describing their issue in the details field and skipping the drop downs that help narrow down the issue. or if anyone has a totally different idea to solve this issue i’m all ears.


In case you were still looking for this - You can customize your portal templates to do this.

  1. Edit portal template file “request.tpl.php”
  2. Find field <input type="hidden" name="required" value="sEmail,fullname" />
  3. Add entry xCategory, so it looks like this: <input type="hidden" name="required" value="sEmail,fullname,xCategory" />

Optionally you may also want to search the template for the xCategory dropdown menu and remove the empty option <option value=""></option>, so users never see an empty category selection.
