Need a blank default category in portal


We have a couple of secondary portals setup and this issue has come up a few times. So the secondary portal has a few categories assigned to it. In the portal, the first category alphabetically is selected by default. Is there a way to make that blank and force the user to select a category from the dropdown list? Thanks.
