Support of non-latin characters in HelpSpot

#1

I am wondering if the latest version of HelpSpot (3.1.5) has better support for non-latin characters such as Japanese. Looking through the forums, I found:

http://www.helpspot.com/helpdesk/index.php?pg=forums.posts&id=6687&pc=4

which mentioned that 4 fields can be modified to minimally support email messages and notes in UTF-8 format:

DB MIGRATIONS:

“minimal change” - minimal set of columns with UTF-8 storage capability

ALTER TABLE HS_Request_History MODIFY tNote longtext CHARACTER SET utf8 NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE HS_Request_Note_Drafts MODIFY tNote longtext CHARACTER SET utf8 NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE HS_Request_Pushed MODIFY tComment longtext CHARACTER SET utf8 NOT NULL;
ALTER TABLE HS_Search_Queries MODIFY sSearch varchar(255) CHARACTER SET utf8 NOT NULL;

Is this still the current recommendation, or can HelpSpot support a database structure which is entirely in UTF-8? Sorry to repost this question, but the last thread was back in 2008.

Just to add, we currently use postgres as a backend to HelpSpot, not MySql, not sure if that makes a difference.

Hi Chuck,

Supporting UTF8 is a core feature of the next major release but isn’t currently supported. There’s no practical workarounds as there are problems in PHP itself we need to work around so changing character settings won’t work unfortunately.
